Weekly Discussion Questions
Verses 1-8 speak of God’s wrath being released upon a rebellious world. The four chariots drawn by four different color horses speak of conquest and victory (white), blood and carnage (red), sorrow and affliction (black), and plagues and pestilence (dapple). They cover the earth so none are spared. Initially God shows mercy but then releases them to unleash His wrath in judgment. Then it ends, it does eventually stop.
Verse 9-15 are filled with hope as a King is seen being crowned and a temple is built as God reigns perfectly so that sin and death are no more.
Read Revelation 6:1-8. Both John and Zechariah are referencing the same vision. What is the closest event in world history that you might imagine conjures visions of divine wrath? Why do you suppose most people seemingly have no fear of God’s wrath or judgement to come?
Verse 7 says the horses (wrath of God) were impatient (straining) to go forth. This indicates they were held in restraint for a time. Why does God show patience toward sinners?
What impresses you more, the idea of God’s wrath or the idea of His mercy? Why?
Do you ever despair of the spiritual and moral darkness that we live in? If so, why? What in verses 8-15 give you hope?
What biblical principle do you see n the closing words of verse 15?
Prayer: Father, you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and self control. Though we live in the midst of a dark generation fill our hearts with hope, hope in who Your are and Your great promises.
