Matthew Henry appropriately stated, Zephaniah intended “not to frighten them out of their wits, but to frighten them out of their sins”
What does the Lord call the people of Judah to do in verses 1-3? By adhering to this urgent call, what would the people be able to escape?
Describe what will happen to Gaza and the other Philistine cities as well as the coastal area?
What can we learn from the nations that taunted and oppressed the people of God?
How did Zephaniah describe the judgements on Moab and Ammon and what did he predict would happen?
Not only judgements were made but also a promise in verse 11. What is this promise and has it been fulfilled? (Read Phil. 2:10-11)
What parallels can be drawn between the nations judged in Zep. 2 and the world today? An example to reflect on would be Nineveh and the attitude that described the people in verse 15. “I am, and there is no one else.”
How can we encourage others to seek righteousness and humility based on the teachings in chapter 2?
Prayer: Father, As we contemplate your judgment upon those who disobey you and discount your Word move upon us what is at stake. Remind us of the seriousness with which you take sin that we may do so as well.
