Weekly Discussion Questions
Here we see the prophet's shift from doubt to radical praise, extolling God's awe-inspiring power as a divine warrior, His judgment, and His enduring mercy. We can gain encouragement in our faith, finding joy amidst hardship as we rely on God's strength, even when circumstances seem dire.
Chapter 3 is referred to as the prayer chapter. What does Habakkuk’s prayer teach us about approaching God in times of fear and uncertainty?
In verse 2, he asks God to “remember mercy.” Based on the things he has described throughout this book, why do you think he asked for this?
How does the vision of God’s power in verses 3-15 comfort Habakkuk and how does it help to shape our understanding of God’s character and his power? In our everyday lives, do we get caught up in our daily walk and sometimes neglect or lose sight of how great and powerful our God truly is?
What is revealed to us about Habakkuk’s faith in his reaction to his vision of God in verses 16-18? If you lost everything like Habakkuk did, would you still be able to find joy? What was it that he learned about God in this situation?
What did he mean in verse 19 when he said that God was his strength? How does his prayer in chapter 3 help us to understand the balance between fearing God and loving Him?
How can the study of Habakkuk help us to maintain hope and faithfulness in the midst of challenges in our daily lives?
Prayer: Father, Thank you that in the end you will always prevail and your love for your people and promises to us are eternal. Grant to us strength to stay fixed on you regardless of our circumstances.
