Weekly Discussion Questions
Why do the righteous suffer while the wicked seem to prosper? In the days of Habakkuk, a prophet in the kingdom of Judah, it seemed that evil was prevailing. The enemies of Israel were rising against the people of God and it appeared that God was not intervening.
In chapter 1:1-4, what specific injustices is Habakkuk crying out against? Does his outcry to God in these verses resonate with situations in the world today?
Can you identify with Habakkuk in his frustration or have you ever wondered where God is during a time of trouble?
In chapter 1: 5-11, the Lord answers him. How can these verses help us shape our understanding of the Lord’s justice and righteousness?
What does the description of the Chaldeans reveal about their character and their purpose? How did God use ungodly people and nations for His purpose? Read Jer. 51:20-24 and reflect on this OT description of the destruction of Babylon and God’s use of the Chaldeans.
In verse 12, Habakkuk does not fully comprehend what God is doing but what words does he use to describe his faith and trust in Him?

Prayer: Father, we are reminded today that evil often seems to triumph as we see the suffering of the righteous, the very ones who trust in you. Give us faith to wait upon you and to trust in your deliverance and not turn from your righteous ways.
