Chapter 5 recounts Israel’s spiritual sickness and misplaced trust followed by a call to return to God.

  • How can God tear and then heal, and what does the promise of revival on the "third day" suggest about God's restorative power? Vv. 1-2

  • What does "I desire mercy, not sacrifice" mean? How did Jesus use this to challenge religious leaders?

  • Why is the "knowledge of God" more important than burnt offerings?

  • How did Israel break faith like Adam, and what do the descriptions of Gilead and the priests reveal about pervasive unfaithfulness?

  • How are the prophets' words like lightning, and how can we discern and respond to God's convicting word today?
