Weekly Discussion Questions

  • What is a memorable story about you & your siblings fighting or your kids fighting with each other?

  • Read Genesis 25:19-34; Who were the people of Edom, and what ancestral relationship did they have to Israel, God’s chosen people?

  • What sins did God judge the nation of Edom for? (v.3, 10-11)

  • Read 2 Chronicles 25:14-15. Did the Edomites worship the one true God, the God of Israel, the God of all? How did/does the sin of idolatry lead to other sins?

  • What did the Lord say he would do to Edom for their sins against his people? (v.1-2,4,6-10,15)

  • Obadiah warned Edom of God’s judgement, but they did not repent. Does Edom exist as a nation today? What can we learn from that reality?

  • Read 2 Peter 3:1-13. What similarities are there in Obadiah’s warning of the coming day of judgement for Edom and the coming day of the Lord’s return for final judgement?

  • Are you warning unrepentant sinners of the coming day of judgement & how they can be saved? If so, how so, and if not, why not?

Prayer: Lord God, thank you for saving us from the coming judgement for sin, and giving us the hope of the new heavens and a new earth. Please use us to warn others of the coming judgement, and lead them to repentance & faith in Jesus Christ for their eternal salvation. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
