What are the illustrations God gave to Israel through Amos in v.3-6 & what is the collective point of them?
In v.8 Amos uses the image of a roaring lion to represent God speaking judgement. Why should God’s people fear him, & what does that mean? (Psalm 111:10, Matthew 10:28, 1 Peter 2:17)
What did God say in v.11-15 he would do to punish Israel for their sins?
Read 2 Kings 17:5-9 & 23:15-16. These passages record the fulfillment of Amos’ prophecies in v.11-15. What does this remind us about God’s word?
Read Romans 8:1, Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Corinthians 5:8-10. As Christians, we are saved by grace not works & there is no condemnation; yet we will be judged for how we lived our life as a Christian. How should we too listen to God’s warnings?
Do you have any specific sin in your life that God has told you to repent of that you need to confess & be prayed for about?
Prayer: God, you are the Sovereign Lord, your way is right & your word is to be believed & obeyed. Thank you for your grace in saving us, & your warnings to convict us & lead us to repentance. Help us obey & glorify you, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
